What Pagudpud taught me

โ€”

To bring or not to bring my laptop? That was the question!

We were going on our birthday vacation and all I could think of a few days before the trip was whether I should bring my laptop or not. I told myself: “What if some work emergency came up? I had to bring my laptop!”

Yeah, right. In truth, I thought I could squeeze in some work. You know, tick off some deadlines but who was I kidding? Pagudpud is so delightfully beautiful that I just had to breathe it all in!

The truth is that I am a workaholic. I’ve been so used to working and working and working that I actually feel guilty when I’m not doing anything. Hey, I know how to have a good time, that’s for sure. However, there’s always a part of me that gets in a state of panic whenever I have too good of a time. Maybe it’s because I’m a single mom, and I’ve always had to be responsible. Or maybe it’s because I’m me! Mwahahaha

Whatever!

The universe took care of my work dilemma. The WiFi at the resort was out and the only place where my cell phone had any signal was at the spot on the photo below — and who could work at such a spot?!

Peace! It was wonderful!

The quiet was almost religious. It brought perspective. It brought clarity. It brought joy!

I first went to Kapuluan Vista Resort for a food story but I thought that the resort was so pretty that I had to spend a few days in it.

We also took long walks to nowhere, which often enough led to somewhere beautiful.

We took stops every now and then, one of our favorites being Marites Restaurant with their delicious seafood menu.

The same restaurant had this blackboard where the staff wrote quotable quotes every day. Neat!

Lying on the sand, it dawned on me that the kids are actually all grown up and making their way into the world. We’ve been lucky. I’ve been lucky. I could be gone tomorrow and I know they’ll be fine. The thought was liberating.

For the first time, after a long time, I could start thinking of myself first again. I could be imaginative enough to envision a renewed life. Moreso, I could be brave enough to actually start living it! #exciting
