Your Gen X Lula is Jing Lejano, single mom of four, lula of one, writer, editor, and forever the optimist.
I’ll be 50 in a few weeks, and yet again, I found myself wanting to have an avenue for my restless wanderings. The good thing about being a writer is that you get to tell stories. The not-so-good thing about being a writer is you don’t exactly get to choose the stories you want to tell.
Lula Land is the story that I want to tell.
I was a teenager in the eighties, and back then, I thought 50 was ancient. But these days, 50 is quite young. There so many individuals who are more than half-a-century old and who are still rocking it. Keanu Reeves is 52. Barack Obama is 56. Nigella Lawson is 57. Madonna is 59. Ate Vi is 63. George R.R. Martin is 68. Stephen King is 69.
Roger Federer is 36. Okay, I know that’s not over half-a-century, but he’s already a granddaddy in athlete years. Plus, I love him so he has to be on my page! Mwahahaha!
These individuals prove that old age ain’t the time for gloom and doom. It can be a time for creativity and education, a rediscovery of the self, if you will. My hope is that through the stories on these pages, older readers may find the inspiration to continue to chase after their passions and younger readers may find consolation at the thought that there is life beyond their 50s. (Oh, and hey, it would give you an idea of what your parentals are going through, too!)
Alongside personal what-the-heck-is-happening-to-me stuff, you’ll find how-to’s and do’s and don’ts on anything and everything as well as absolutely amazing stories of individuals who’ll put people half their age to shame.
Enjoy!
Love,
Jing
